Modern Salon magazine asked their Facebook fans to vote for their favourite hairdressing movies.

These are the top ten:

1.  Steel Magnolias – heart wrenching drama set in a beauty shop in Louisiana starring Sally Field, Dolly Parton and Shirley MacLaine.

2.  Good Hair – Chris Rock explores how African-American women feel about their hair in this documentary.

3.  Hairspray – Hilarious musical set in the 1960s and featuring a fistful of catchy tunes. The 1988 original, starring Ricki Lake as Tracy Turnblad, was remade in 2007 featuring John Travlta as Tracy’s mother!

4.  You Don’t Mess With the Zohan – Zohan, an Israeli counter terrorist commando, fakes his own death to fashion a new life in New York as … a hair stylist. Adam Sandler wrote, produced and stars.

5.  Shampoo – a hit in 1975 for Warren Beatty, a celebrity hairdresser who beds his clients, including Goldie Hawn and Julie Christie.

6.  Edward Scissorhands – Tim Burton directed this fantastical tale of the boy with scissor for fingers, which he uses for hair cutting and hedge trimming, starring Johnny Depp.

7.  Blow Dry – British rom-com from 2001based in a small village about to be taken over for the British Hairdressing Championships. Natasha Richardson and Alan Rickman star.

8.  Vidal Sassoon - the Movie – documentary exploring the life of the legendary British hairdresser. Famed for his "If you don't look good, we don't look good" tagline from his 1980’s TV adverts.

9.  Beauty Shop – Queen Latifah stars with Alicia Silverstone, Andie MacDowell and Kevin Bacon in this comedy, a spin-off The Barbershop film franchise, this time set in a beauty salon.

10. Sweeney Todd – Johnny Depp stars again in this somewhat bizarre film version of the Sondheim musical about the murderous demon barber of Fleet Street. Hairdressing needn’t be a drama, though.
